Hotel · Comprehensive assignment
The Wood Hotel
AB Gunnar Svensson was involved from the very beginning. The assignment covered contracts, design development, project management and the delivery of all loose and fixed furnishings.
Involved from the first step
One coordinated responsibility throughout the project
The assignment began long before the first delivery. AB Gunnar Svensson supported Elite Hotels of Sweden with contracts, cost planning, design development and coordination, then followed the project through production, installation and completion.
The work encompassed guestrooms, lobby, restaurants, commercial kitchens and spa. In a project involving many environments, disciplines and partners, our role was to coordinate the details and ensure that the architects’ ideas could be manufactured, delivered and function in daily hotel operations.
Sara Kulturhus
A new landmark in timber
The decision to build Sara Kulturhus was taken in 2015. White Arkitekter subsequently won the open architectural competition with the proposal “Sida vid sida”, and construction began in 2018. The building opened in 2021 and is named after the author Sara Lidman.
The almost 80-metre-high building brings theatre, art, library, restaurants and The Wood Hotel together under one roof. The hotel’s 205 rooms occupy prefabricated timber modules in the 20-storey tower, where Skellefteå’s timber tradition meets modern technology.
The guestrooms
From rendering to completed room
The guestrooms were developed in close collaboration with Skuggan Arkitekter. During the process, we produced renderings that made it possible to test proportions, materials, functions and details before production.
The completed interiors retain the character of the timber building, while bespoke storage, lighting, textiles and furniture create comfortable rooms for hotel guests.

A warm meeting place in timber
Restaurant Mandel and the hotel lobby were developed in close collaboration with Skuggan Arkitekter. Furniture, fixed joinery, lighting and textiles were coordinated into a relaxed restaurant environment firmly rooted in the building’s material character.

Restaurant Miss Voon
Detailed development of a bold concept
For Miss Voon, we developed the restaurant details together with sandellsandberg. The red ceiling landscape, rounded forms and bespoke furnishings required close dialogue between architect, manufacturing and installation.
Our task was to translate the concept into buildable details and coordinate delivery of the completed restaurant at the top of the hotel.

Vana Spa
Project management from architectural idea to operation
The spa was project-managed by AB Gunnar Svensson together with architect Per Öberg. Fixed furnishings, furniture, textiles and special solutions were coordinated for environments with exacting requirements for atmosphere, materials and function.
The result ranges from tranquil indoor wellness areas to the outdoor pool overlooking Skellefteå.

Commercial kitchens, water treatment & coordination
Detailed expertise far beyond furnishings
The commercial kitchens were developed in detail with Carlborgkonsult. By coordinating equipment, workflows, installations and adjacent furnishings at an early stage, the technical requirements could be integrated into the restaurants as a whole.
For the spa and pool environments, water treatment was coordinated with Poolwater. The assignment demonstrates our ability to understand and manage the technical systems surrounding the interiors, including function, installations, operation and maintenance.
The entire project was carried out in collaboration with White Arkitekter, architects of Sara Kulturhus, with Elite Hotels of Sweden as the client for all hotel areas.
